The city of Cuxhaven with its nearly 50,000 inhabitants is located at the northern tip of Lower Saxony, on the beautiful North Sea coast and is surrounded by water on two sides. The natural diversity of landscapes and the maritime climate make Cuxhaven a unique habitat on the North Sea. Bremerhaven can be reached by car in only half an hour. The Hanseatic cities of Bremen and Hamburg are within easy reach. Bremen can be reached after only one hour drive and Hamburg after 2 hours.
Cuxhaven is composed of several districts: Altenbruch, Altenwalde, Berensch-Arensch, Cuxhaven (with Ritzebüttel), Döse, Duhnen, Groden, Holte-Spangen, Lüdingworth, Sahlenburg, Stickenbüttel and Süder- Westerwisch. Altenbruch, Berensch-Arensch and Lüdingworth are more rural. Cuxhaven (with Ritzebüttel), Döse and Süder-Westerwisch are centrally located.
The manageable size, quiet location, diverse landscape and good infrastructure are interesting for families but also for older generations.
In the center, the city center, there is a wide range of shopping and stores of all kinds. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes to settle down in. The city center also has a cinema. The districts of Duhnen and Döse have particularly many restaurants and bars and are popular with many tourists due to their direct waterfront location and are therefore very busy.
Due to Cuxhaven's compact size, there are no long distances. Much is within walking distance, which makes everyday life much easier. A large number of bicycle paths are used with pleasure and make Cuxhaven an altogether low-noise city. There are several bus lines that connect the center with popular districts, such as Duhnen, Döse or Sahlenburg. Trains depart from the main train station to Hamburg and to Bremerhaven.
